In keeping with the cultural practice of “honoring the ancestors” and incorporating them into the whole process of creating an intergenerational child development and lifelong learning center, STARCHILD, the board of the non-profit, LoveLight, Inc. has decided to honor, at the facility, some very special people who have been affiliated with our organization over the years. These honorees, who represent the best qualities of humanity- love, caring, compassion, and service to others are E. Timothy Moore, Sherry Thompson, Gloria Robinson Wright, Mary Maske, Robert Justice, Sr., and Maurice Drake.
E. Timothy Moore
Tim, a professor and associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at Kent State, was one of LoveLight's incorporators and our first board chairperson, providing our logo, guidance and support, and a strong connection for University collaboration.
Sherry Thompson
Board secretary-treasurer, this humble angel on earth watched over the agency from her Style House across the hall and gave her unwavering support in many ways over the years.
Gloria Robinson Wright
Educator of children, board member and supporter of various initiatives, "Glo's" door was always open. Dispenser of elder wisdom and nourishing food, she is the inspiration for another non-profit created by her daughter, appropriately named "Gloria's Welcoming Hands".
Mary M. Maske
Lover of learning, embodiment of agape love, Mary played a key role behind the scenes, providing support and guidance, especially in the area of education and development.
Robert Lewis Justice, Sr.
Provided support in a myriad of ways, both direct and indirect, for example, delivering meals and sharing tips on how to prepare food, including his recipe for mac 'n cheese which children in the summer lunch program then got to enjoy. It is thanks to the support of this husband of mine of 47+ years, "the wind beneath my wings", that I have been able to devote my time to the healthful development of children and related initiatives over the years.
Maurice "Uncle Mo" Drake
Apostle of positivity and love, Maurice has been an inspiration to many and a faithful supporter and participant in LoveLight activities, the last official one being a session on health and nutrition for middle and high school students as part of LoveLight's Exploring the Black Experience initiative. I always hoped Maurice would be the cook at STARCHILD, preparing nutritious food for and with the children, singing, laughing, exploring nature, and blessing everyone with his presence. Providing education and sharing his wisdom and love with youth and adults alike through a live and videotaped series we would create, "Cookin' With Uncle Mo". I am sure he will be with us in spirit, however, because as was said to me recently, "Love is truly eternal."
Donations to help LoveLight create STARCHILD and provide a permanent home for LoveLight as well as space for community services are welcome. Information is available on this website, www.lovelightcares.org or by contacting lovelight@lovelightcares.org. Please be sure to let us know if you are making a Legacy Donation in honor of someone.
